Will of the Gods is a game that was created during the Global Game Jam of 2016 where it won second place and the audience award. The game is a multiplayer versus game in which each player controls a different God and must gather followers at their shrine.

Both players have to score points and compete by converting as many followers as possible. This is done by converting Neutral villagers and of course by trying to convert the other player’s followers. Whenever villagers or followers are converted they stick to the group that converted them. The larger group always converts the smaller group and thus groups get bigger and bigger as a player converts more.

In order to score points the player has to guide their followers to the shrine on their respective side of the map. Of course both players are able to influence the game field with several divine powers in the shape of a Lightning Bolt and a Whirlwind. The Lightning will automatically neutralize large groups upon impact and the Whirlwind allows players to split up their own groups into smaller ones. This naturally creates a risk versus reward situation where you can bank a big group in one go but risk losing it all.

During the Game Jam and the further development I worked on the overall concept of the game, all of the powers and tweaking the variables to make sure the game felt fair when playing. Besides working on mechanics I also was also responsible for designing and implementing all of the audio for the project.
